The Sunbeam Radiant Control Toaster
The original sunbeam radiant toaster has been known to dominate the toaster market from the late 1940’s to about 1997 due to its many unique features. Everything from its signature art deco style design to its brilliant toasting ability made it a favorite for both cafes and households alike.
Features
The Sunbeam Radiant toaster was a favorite for numerous reasons, its sleek design being one of the most obvious, and the quality of its performance being another. The performance was marketed as “Authentic Beyond Belief” and as many users have testified, the toaster really lived up to those words. For starters, the toaster had no lever to pull down as most toasters nowadays do. It would simply be activated as soon as the slice of bread touched the bottom of the device, automatically activating the heating mechanism. The centre wire expands, causing the slice of bread to be carried down. Once the slice is inside, the Radiant Control thermostat actually monitors the level of heat received by the bread. It is raised only when it has been ully toasted and there is no need for a timer either. Once the slice has been perfectly toasted, the centre wire contracts, causing the slice to rise up.
Despite all of its wonderful features, the Sunbeam Radiant Control Toaster was taken off the market around the same time as the rise of the Worldwide Web and since then there have been several other toasters that have come close to delivering the same level of performance such as the the T-20 and more of its kind such as the T-35, VT-40, 20-30, and AT-W.
Production of this great toaster ceased after the company was sold during the merger and acquisition boom
